In 1440, Gabriel de Monestiés was lord of Trévien, which was then part of the barony of Monestiés, and its lords were vassals of the bishop of Albi. In 1596, the castle passed to the Castelpers family through the marriage of Yolande de Monestiés. The Castelpers family later took the title of Baron and then Marquis of Trévien. It was during this period that the famous Protestant captain Bertrand de Castelpers lived here.
Guillaume de Castelpers, Viscount of Ambialet and Marquis of Trévien in 1708, married Jacquette de Paulo, heiress to the land of Saint Hippolyte. In 1787, the barony belonged to M. de Chastenet, Viscount of Puységur and Rabastens, field marshal of the king's armies.
Built of rubble stone and slate, the castle of Trévien was constructed in several stages and remains an important historic landmark in the Tarn.
